ETP 110

Risk Assessment for Business and Security 2-day

$6,000

Risk assessment is viewed by many organizations as a long and complicated process.  This two day session will dispel that myth and provide the attendees the tools required to complete a quality risk assessment, using an industry standard process, in five days or less.

This course will examine the components of the risk assessment process and how it can be used within each organization.  It will examine the pros and cons of creating threat list by brainstorming or checklists.  Attendees will examine examples of threat lists and discuss how these can be altered to meet the attendee’s specific needs.

We then examine various control lists that address the issues that are presented to the organization daily.  We focus on current laws and standards (NIST, OMB, FISCAM, ISO 17799, ISO 27002, GLBA, HIPAA, SOX) and map them to the attendees’ organizational requirements.

At the end of this session, the attendees will take with them an understanding of the risk assessment process, the tools they need to perform the task at their own organization, examples of threat lists, sample control lists and a management summary letter template.

Prerequisites: None.
ETP 120 Fast Tracking Risk Assessment 3-day $7,500

The Fast-Track experience begins with an examination of the components of the risk assessment and how it can be used by your specific organization.  The attendees will examine the pros and cons of creating threat lists by brainstorming or checklists.  Examples of various threat lists will be provided for your organization to adopt or adapt for your own needs.

We will then create control lists based on the requirements of your organization.  We will focus on current laws and standards (NIST, OMB, FISCAM, ISO 17799, GLBA, HIPAA, SOX) and map them to your organization’s requirements.

On day two of the on-site visit we will conduct a risk assessment on a project, process, system or application of your choosing.  The risk assessment process normally takes four hours.  Once the threats have been identified, existing controls identified and risk levels established, the risk assessment team will turn its attention in completing the Management Summary Report and the Assessment Action Plan.

Report preparation and debriefing will occur on the afternoon of day two and all day on day three.  At the conclusion of this on-site visit, your organization will have all of the tools needed to conduct future risk assessments and the experience of having conducted one.

Prerequisites: None.
ETP 130 Developing Effective Policies and Procedures 3-day $7,000

Implementing the controls required to meet business objectives can be a seemingly overwhelming task. First you must lay the cornerstone of your information security program: a set of concise, effective information security policies, standards and procedures that, together, will serve as the foundation for all future implementation of controls.
During this three-day, working seminar, we will examine how to tie security goals to the business objectives. We will review the key elements that form the foundation of an effective set of policies standards, and procedures. We will critique examples of existing information security policies and identify pitfalls to avoid. To ensure that this seminar is a true learning experience, the instructor will lead a number of facilitated exercises that will allow the attendees to draft an initial information security policy statement.

Once the policy is completed we will examine how standards support the policy and how these concepts can be put to use in creating an information security mission statement.  We will also examine how to use NIST, OMB, FISCAM, ISO 17799, GLBA, HIPAA, SOX and other national and international standards to support the standards and procedures.

Procedures are as unique as the organization. There are no generally accepted standards for the proper way to write a procedure. What will determine how your procedures look will be how they currently look or what will work best to provide the target audience with what they need? This means that it may be necessary to use a number of different styles. In this session we will examine what some of that procedure styles look like and how they are used.
